The crystal curse (2019, unpublished) is a mobile, pixel art game. The main character is cursed into an eternal duty of gathering crystals for the ravenous goddess. Will it be able to break the never-ending circle and free itself from this vicious nightmare?
For this game, the developers approached me to handle the visual aspects. Although I had no prior experience with pixel art, I found it to be an intriguing challenge and agreed to take it on. As a member of a small team, I was also given the opportunity to contribute to the design process by proposing ideas for the game’s setting and story.
To maximize the potential of the pixel art style, I made a decision to preserve the rectangular form as much as possible, and add more details to the textures. However, I introduced elliptical shapes exclusively for the main character to create contrast, giving it a friendly appearance and setting it apart from the surrounding environment.
